align="left" /> Danish Ghetto School Succeeds with Ad Campaign A ghetto school in Aarhus, Denmark, uses contemporary advertising methods to win back pupils and it seems to be working. These days, ten city busses are driving through Aarhus with smiling children and the name Søndervangskolen depicted on the side of the busses. In the residential area of Rosenhøj, tall banners drape an apartment house and a school building. There are pictures of happy children of different skin colours and the message: 'Søndervangskolen — we create the multicultural schools of the future'. These are elements of an ad campaign with the objective to change the bad reputation that Søndervangskolen has had. — What we heard was something along the lines of 'the school is bad' or that it was for losers. Parents also dumped us because of the numerous children with an ethnic background, says Principal Rani Hørlyck. Within a ten-year period, Søndervangskolen experienced the highest decline in pupil numbers in Aarhus. However, the campaign and a couple of years' focused joint effort with various residents' associations and preschools has had an effect.
